From the Journal of Alexi Goldenscale
Upon seeing the figure and identifying him as somehow Quinn (but not Quinn from my time) I turn to Montague to ask how he knew who he was, only to find him crouched down in a ball, head lowered. I ask him again ‘who is this?!’ he just stares at the floor; seemingly unable to respond. I manage to get him to look at me but he seems completely broken. He finally mutters the words – ‘It’s the Emperor’. Oh Hell No!….Content in the fact that at least the Null Space barrier is up between us I consider my next move trying to work out what the hell is going on….. (GM: and you just craped your robes)
While trying to tend to Montague I sense something and before I can turn around I feel this great build-up of power and before I can respond, I feel my Spatial Lock collapse under the power and there is an explosion behind me and Montague is thrown back, while I manage to stop myself after being pushed back slightly. (GM: no assless chaps moment…shame) I know the power came from Quinn, something far more powerful than I have ever seen him do. (GM: he has become more powerful than you could possibly imagine!! :P ) He just overpowered my spatial lock with brute force; no finesse. I sense the null space open but quickly it stalls as this Quinn applies a barrier around it. Realizing that there is now no longer a barrier between us I turn to confront him – ‘Why are you here?!’ (GM: that’s the first thing you say to him ?!?)
’The time had finally come once more to ‘put things right’. My Advisor says it is time. The power is summoned and a ‘hole’ is ripped into the very fabric of space and time; there will be no turning back.’
That’s what Gold Quinn says. This is not going to end well I’m sure of it. But before I can really assess the situation, the Null Space situation has to be dealt with. I ask him plainly if he can close it. He waits to respond and I get the feeling that he has to be careful about what he says – Changing the timeline problems? I’m not sure. I tell him plainly that unless he brought a member of the chaos races or he has a chaos item he can’t affect the timeline. He doesn’t seem to want to elaborate and I’m definitely sure something is going wrong. (GM: secrets within secrets!!)
I think back to what has happened and that my plan of attempting to keep the timeline on the same course has taken a slight detour all because of the staff and then it hits me… If I keep using the staff to go back in time, time can be changed in each of those instances because the staff has been used… I’ve created a paradox for myself. (GM: very good!!)
So why is time converging? Has something been changed so I can attempt to close the paradox. Quinn doesn’t offer much information but I get the gist that this is kind of the reason he is here. It’s funny actually, I talk to him like I would in this current timeline and Montague thinks that I’m being disrespectful to the Emperor… well by the way he’s talking, he deserves it. Whatever happens in the future this Quinn is not the pure heart (some might say gullible) brother that I have now. He has become Justice without compassion, an Avatar of Paladine in the world but with a very black & white outlook. From what titbits get revealed it seems that he has become the beacon of Light in the world and has saved many (including the ‘enslaved’ mages) from oblivion. (GM: some would say a harsh white light.. but only in a whisper) I try to ascertain whether he’s pulled a Kingpriest but it seems that Evil is still about, stronger than ever actually. It seems that both sides have grown stronger. Which perhaps means that there is more chances of total annihilation if one side tips just a little too far. (GM: stakes are higher now)
It was during one of these conversations about the Mordor weapons and how they created Null Space that I discovered that they are created from the power of Chaos…. Of course! It all makes sense now. I also realize I know how to seal up the Null Space. By combining Arcane and Divine power (I.E. Chaos) we can stitch together the broken Null space and seal the breach. After telling them my plan and Montague agreeing that it should work (Somehow he’s more knowledgeable about Null Space than before) (GM: good pick up on that) we begin the process of Quinn keeping the space together while I prepare the breach.
As we begin the process we initially fail because his power and mine are so foreign to each other that we cannot work together. Eventually we manage to make a connection but something still seems off. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re from different times or something but suddenly a fracture opens to the side of us and luckily nothing bad comes through. Instead a ghostly figure (that I recognize as father) appears and he places his hands on both (Emperor) Quinn and myself and I feel infused with power and I assume Quinn received the same help because suddenly it felt like a weight had been lifted and we were able to repair the tear in Null Space. At Quinn’s suggestion I ‘cork’ the top of the hole as he will need that to get back to his own time…. Interesting.
We’re discussing what we can do to close the Time-loop, the easiest and most straight forward suggestion is to kill me. (GM: works for me!) From the look between the other two I get the sense that that particular option had been considered…. (GM: who said JUST considered) How rude. It’s at this point that another fracture opens and somehow Quinn recognizes that this one is not friendly. He warns both Montague and me back and surrounds himself in a barrier of pure divine light. A powerful energy emerges from the fracture and hits Quinn’s barrier throwing him against and through the opposite passage wall.
In what was perhaps an error in judgement I continued my discussion with Montague trying to get information from him about why Quinn is like this now. Montague is worried about Quinn and the fracture but I know Quinn is fine, the barrier was intensely strong. As I’m trying to force the issue with Montague I hear a noise from behind and as I turn I see a hooded figure appear out of the fracture (all in black) with a large spear, charge up and stab me… Ouch…
Now I’m pissed. Montague is crying in his boots and Quinn attempts to get out of the all the fallen debris he’s trapped in. I fall forward and the weapon slides out. Luckily for some reason the weapon didn’t do much physical injury which probably means something very bad will happen latter. Turning around I see the hooded figure preparing to strike again so I channel my wellspring into an ice blast (out of my mouth! D: – Dragon power maybe) into the creature which pushes the creature back. It hits the figure and they are blasted back into the fracture and the creature squeals in pain. The fracture closes and the creature is destroyed. Unfortunately his weapon remains in the passage just 10 feet away.
By this time Quinn has rushed back into the passage sword drawn and I give him a look of haughty derision, but unfortunately at that point I feel whatever bad juju was in the spear starts to spread through my body and I have to lean against the wall. Quinn races over and I explain to him what happened and that I’m going to have to try and dispel this bad juju. I tried to concentrate on he ‘Mordor’ essence but unfortunately it is extremely foreign, not like any I have encountered before.
I falter further and Montague rushes over and examines me. He confirms ‘It’s one of them’. Quinn offers to remove the essence but it won’t be pretty and it will hurt (probably more considering this Quinn seems to have little to no compassion). I’m just glad I have removed the Udoonin essence otherwise I’d hate to think what would happen here. He reaches forward and puts his hand over the wound and I feel him channelling Paladine. The power starts to seep into me and I can’t help but squeal in pain. The pain is excruciating, even worse than the other Gods of Light infused me with their power. Eventually Quinn removes his hand I notice that he has extracted the ‘Mordor’ weapon energy in his hand. Before I can ask him about it he closes his fist and the ‘Mordor’ energy is snuffed out. (GM: neat trick huh)
As I’m recovering I see Quinn’s head react and he turns towards the way he came down the passage. He stands and motions to Montague who reaches into his robes and withdraws a wand (made of Mordor energy!! – WTF). (GM: hmmm maybe someone is out of the loop)
‘I can hear you….!’ We can hear a voice coming down the passage. Quinn looks to me but I don’t recognize it. He seems to, and he looks grim and resolved. Quinn raises his sword preparing for a fight and I sense a small burst of light comes out. ‘You can’t keep him from me, Quinn… Turn him over and I might let you live……. Oh who am I kidding, I’m going to kill you anyway, but at least this way I might make it quick’.
It’s at this point Lon (Evil and future nasty) appears with six of the Irda soulless bodies, hmmm. There’s certainly some history between Quinn and Lon (not sure if it’s anything to do with me). The fight begins and Quinn makes quick work of Lon’s minions with a wave of radiant energy (Lon had to dodge out of the way). Unfortunately the Irda were also using ‘Mordor’ weapons and two of them explode causing more devastation to the passage. Quinn chases after Lon and attempts to grab his necklace. Lon manages to step out of the way and begins to laugh at Quinn.
Sensing the power of Udoonin within Lon I channel my power into a sigil and bring it to bear on Lon. It reacts to the Udoonin essence and he squeals in pain, rooted on the spot. I hear him mutter the words ‘I always hated you!’ (Love you to sweetpea).
Quinn steps forward and this time grabs a hold of the amulet and channels the full power of Paladine through it. He manages to eject the essence of Udoonin and all that remains is Lon (near death) wearing the amulet which now shows the Goldenscale emblem (and our mother’s on the back). With Quinn about to finish off Lon (!!!) I tell him to stop and proceed over to check him myself. Unfortunately he is dying and it seems that even with Udoonin’s essence ejected he has evil inside of him. It seems Quinn believes he can be redeemed but I sense no willingness from Lon, I turn to Quinn and say that you cannot force redemption upon him. Quinn seems to think otherwise. I sigh and step away and Quinn finishes off Lon. I examine the Udoonin essence Quinn is holding and sense that although at its basic level is Udoonin’s power, it has been mutated into something far more dangerous. I don’t even know how I would go about stopping such a mutated force. Quinn snuffs it out and I turn and walk back to Montague. Not sure what I am more shocked about – That Lon went evil or that Quinn now thinks he can force redemption on people… (GM: sounds pretty cool to me)
Quinn walks behind me and upon approaching Montague I ask them both – ‘What happened to him?’ Montague doesn’t say a word and all Quinn will say is that he’s a member of a Suicide Squad but he’s not the last.
I try to gather more information about Lon but both of them seem reluctant to answer. It’s at this point that I realise I might have another solution to my paradox. The problem is being caused by the Chaos Staff and the Mordor weapons in the vicinity. If we can expel all the Chaos power from them all that will close the time-loop. Upon putting forth this idea I get the sense that this is the correct path; It will be dangerous and there is a chance that when the time-loop is closed that both Quinn, Montague and I will each have different parts of our two incarnations in this timeline fused together. Knowledge and power may be gained or lost, I’m worried that the Udoonin essence will once again inhabit my body.
It’s at this point that during out discussion Montague and Quinn start talking about something (trying to keep it vague) but this is not my first rodeo. It seems they are also stuck in a Time-Loop of some sort. I’m sure I wasn’t meant to hear this but supposedly I am the third Alexi they have encountered….
Oh my…. It seems that Paladine provides Quinn with the knowledge at the start of every time-loop of the previous ones to aid him in fixing this problem. I decide to reveal to him the information I have been keeping secret from my own Quinn in the hope it can aid him. (GM: and here we go!!!!!!)
I divulge the two pieces of information that I have and the speculation that goes with them:
1) We are not just twins but are triplets. I don’t tell him who told me this information but it is definitely genuine. I believe he is the eldest, the 2nd (a brother I am assuming) and then myself the youngest, born at the exact moment of the Eye. I have my suspicions about whom our brother is: I believe that it’s Caleb. He was left at a monastery that our father visited, and in fact it might have been the ‘quest’ our father left to find him.
2) The second piece of information although not confirmed I think the circumstantial evidence is enough to make it so – Lukan Darkwood is the reincarnation of Draleth – the original Irda who was the greatest user of the magic I now channel. He’s after the books that I found in the Great Library. I believe that he came up with this way of ensuring that he lives eternally but he cannot take all his knowledge with him each time. He needs these books to unlock the knowledge from his previous lives. Denvark has taken over his cult but he’s secretly now inside the circle. Whether he’s honest with you and your activities is up to you, but I will be ensuring he never gets his hands on the books otherwise he could become just as much of a threat as Udoonin.
Both Montague and Quinn are shocked by that last one and I get the feeling that Lukan has made himself quite useful in the ‘new order’ of things. When I get out of here he’ll regret the day he ever decided to shift through time this way. I decide to move on and make a list of what we are after:
Items that we know of that have Chaos inside:
1) Staff of Takhisis (Formerly Staff of the Beyond)
2) Book of Chaos (They look at me curiously when I mention this and tell them to ‘not even ask!’
3) Landrus Gem
4) Any Mordor Weapons within the tower.
The Landrus gem seems the most appropriate first target but Quinn explains that it is defended by those sith knights that Redegar and I encountered in Korval…. Hmmm… I’m not as worried because my arcane magic is different but it will still be difficult. Quinn looks grim about the situation – perhaps we have failed at this before… (GM: just a thought, if the Epic Gold Quinn seems worried… then WORRY!!)
We approach Montague’s laboratory and begin to make a plan.
